About Mats Andersson
Mats Andersson works intuitively, orchestrating his marks, colors and movements so that they gesture toward harmony. Closeness to nature informs Andersson’s choices; as he paints, he responds to the organic properties of his surroundings and his materials. He makes decisions in the spirit of the moment and no two works are the same. Yet these paintings interact with one another, acting like vignettes in an ever evolving story. Experimenting with thickness, density, washes and lines until the elements of each painting meet each other in a final, music-like resolution, Andersson strives to create an intimate experience for his viewers. He evokes the nearness of nature, the joy of life’s dynamism and an encompassing hopefulness, inviting viewers to let their emotiveness and idealism run rampant.
Originally from Angelholm, Sweden, Andersson currently lives and works in the seaside community of Höganäs, Sweden. A self-taught artist, he continues to learn from nature, honing his ability to capture light and color.
